Legal translation involves texts related to the legal field, such as a company’s deeds of incorporation, a contract, a confidentiality agreement, a court ruling, etc. It is a very complex type of translation, as the documents involved have usually been drawn up by legal professionals, which means that the translator has to express – in another language – words and concepts that have legally binding consequences for two or more parties.
At Ampersand we translate all types of legal documents, for both individual and professional clients. In particular, we work with law firms, international companies and legal specialists who need translations that are carried out by experts with a thorough understanding of the terminology and type of document in question. We translate documents issued abroad (so that they will be valid in Spain) as well as documents issued in Spain (so that they can be used abroad). Generally, we handle documents that generate a series of rights and obligations for different parties, which is why it is important that the translation is carried out by professional translators, such as those who work with Ampersand. Some of the most common types of documents we translate are:
At Ampersand we take a tailor-made approach to preparing each quote and establishing each time frame. We consider variables such as word count, urgency, repetition rate, volume (if various documents need to be translated), complexity and format.
Send the quote form you will find here or at the bottom of the page, adding your details and the document you wish to translate, and specifying the language you require. We will then evaluate your request and get back to you very promptly.
The quote we send you will specify the exact price, the deadline for delivery and the instructions for confirming the project and making payment via bank transfer. Once we receive the confirmation, we will begin the legal translation immediately.
For legal translations, the materials we deliver usually consist of the full translated text and the original or copy of the translated document. We will deliver the translation within the agreed time frame via e-mail, unless the client prefers another means of delivery.
Our core team consists of native translators who are experts in legal terminology for the most in-demand European languages. They also boast extensive experience and knowledge of the legal systems in the source and target countries for the translation in question, thereby ensuring that the translation will have the same legal effects as those provided for in the original document.
We assign each project or client a single point of contact, who will take the client’s needs into account and provide personalised monitoring and follow-up. This enables us to reduce our response times, address any new challenges that may arise and make sure that the entire project complies with the very strictest requirements. Our methodology is the result of our continued commitment to innovation.
As one of the longest-established translation agencies in Barcelona, we are in the privileged position of having accumulated an in-depth knowledge of the most common types of legal documents. These documents require precise terminology, a particular style, thorough knowledge of the legal system in question and a strict commitment to confidentiality, in order to ensure the best levels of service. Our ability to meet these requirements has earned us the trust of more than 2,000 clients.
Most common types of legal documents can be translated at our basic rate of €0.10 + VAT per word. However, in order to avoid compromising the quality of the end product, we can only set a definitive price and deadline after analysing the material that is to be translated. This is because some documents may require additional research, owing to their format or content, and this could have an impact on the price and deadline for delivery.
Our 2,000-plus clients include international companies, law firms, tax consultants and other professionals who need to translate legal documents on a regular basis in order to compete on the international market, communicate with clients and colleagues from other countries, gain an understanding of different legal systems and international commercial operations, etc. These clients have entered into collaboration agreements with us that are fully adapted in line with their work schedules and offer extremely competitive prices while guaranteeing the highest standards of quality and confidentiality. From the very start, we assign a dedicated team to each project, create specific glossaries and translation memories, and work with the most reliable partners (couriers, consultants, etc.) at both the national and international level.
Request informationAt Ampersand we have a team of highly talented sworn translators for legal translations that require official certification (e.g. translations that need to be submitted to an official body which requires the documents to be legally valid). This is often the case for corporate deeds, contracts, court rulings, etc. that have to be submitted as part of legal proceedings, for example. To find out more about these types of translations, please visit our dedicated page for sworn translation services.
Not necessarily. The translation only needs to be sworn if an official body requires it. For example, a sworn translation of a legal document would be needed if it formed part of a legal claim that was to be presented in court; but it would not be needed if the document was to be presented to a company as part of an international expansion operation. The sworn translations needed for specific procedures are carried out by translators certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and are more expensive than non-certified legal translations; consequently, it is important that our clients determine whether or not a sworn translation is actually required.
It depends on the document that is to be translated. A court ruling consisting of hundreds of pages of text with specialised legal terminology may need weeks to translate, while a confidentiality agreement with standard clauses would only need a few days. If you would like to know the exact time frame for translating your document, ask us for a no-obligation quote, making sure to send us the materials that are to be translated. We will then set a specific deadline, which we will comply with scrupulously. If you need the translation urgently, tell us in the message you send via the quote form, and we will adjust the time frame as much as possible.
Yes. We provide our clients with a dedicated team of translators specialising in the languages that are most in demand at the European level (English, French, German, Italian, Russian, Polish, Dutch and Portuguese). We also take on projects in other languages, such as Japanese, Arabic and Chinese. Ask us for information on prices and time frames.
