Our 25-plus years of experience in the field - during which we have been party to many major changes in the industry - have underlined the fact that the key to an excellent commercial translation is working with the best professionals.
Native speakers of a language have been exposed to it, and to the cultural context of the country or countries where it is spoken, from birth. This gives them a deeper understanding of its nuances and of the cultural idiosyncrasies of the target audience for the translation, for whom it must be accurate and natural in order to be effective.
Their deep understanding of the source language enables our translators to accurately capture the tone, intention and meaning of the original text and express it effectively in the target language. Moreover, understanding the grammar, syntax and vocabulary of the source language is essential to producing accurate translations that maintain the nuances and tone of the original text.
There are many qualifications that can make a translator linguistically competent. However, at Ampersand we specifically require a qualification in translation and interpreting (or equivalent), as this will ensure that the translator has an in-depth knowledge of translation techniques (including the use of tools such as translation memories and glossaries), terminology management and the ethical and professional standards of the industry.
Because we require our translators to have previous experience, we ensure that they have specific knowledge and skills, have faced a variety of professional challenges and complexities, and have developed strategies that enable them to keep up to date with the terminology, trends and practices in their area of specialisation.
Our translation agency uses the most advanced translation processes to support and complement the linguistic and technical talent of our translators, thereby guaranteeing a service that is consistent, repeatable, traceable, efficient and scalable.
We assign a single translator to each project, in order to optimise the quality and consistency of our translations and make them more efficient, in view of the fact that the translator will be more familiar with the specific style and terminology. In turn, this enables us to build long-term relationships of trust with our clients.
We work with terminology glossaries, both our own (legal, technological, financial, medical, scientific, fashion-related, etc.) and those of our clients, in order to guarantee the accuracy and consistency of our translations.
We use translation memories that store all of the work we carry out. This enables us to streamline the process for future translations, make them more consistent and offer discounts for repeated text.
We use computer-assisted translation (CAT) software to process large volumes of information quickly and facilitate the translation process, which is further streamlined by the use of translation memories and glossaries.
Our management system ensures that our clients’ documents remain confidential throughout the entire translation process, thanks to the use of an integrated translation environment, the most stringent IT security measures, and the fact that all of Ampersand’s translators are required to sign a confidentiality agreement. We also commit to our clients’ confidentiality by signing any confidentiality agreements they may consider necessary.
At Ampersand we work closely with companies that need commercial translations of all kinds on a regular basis, adapting our activities in line with their delivery schedules (tax years, launches of products and services, publication of website content, etc.), confidentiality requirements and work methodologies (standards, reviews, meetings, etc.). We assign a project manager to each client, to make sure that we are able to meet their needs at all times and provide maximum flexibility without compromising on quality.
At Ampersand we take a bespoke approach to every quote and deadline. For this reason, our clients need to send us the documents that are to be translated, so that we can take into account variables such as word count, urgency, repetition rate, number of documents (where applicable), complexity and format. This enables us to offer discounts and ensure scrupulous compliance with the deadline for delivery. Unlike other companies, we do not restrict ourselves to fixed prices and time frames that do not usually take these factors into account and compromise on quality and compliance with deadlines as a result.
Send us a form, adding your details along with those of the translation and attaching the document or documents that are to be translated (we will treat them as highly confidential). If you prefer, you can call us or send us an e-mail.
You will receive a quote in which we will specify the deadline for our delivery of the translation, along with instructions for making payment and beginning the translation process. If you accept the quote, we will begin the commercial translation immediately.
Based on our analysis of the document or documents to be translated, we will assign you a suitable project manager and translator (or, in certain cases, a team of translators).
We will carry out the translation using the appropriate processes and tools (such as glossaries, translation memories, computer-assisted translation software, etc.) in line with the size, sector and urgency of the translation, among other factors.
We will deliver the translation within the specified time frame and in the desired format, using the method agreed with the client (usually via e-mail, although translations can also be collected in person or sent via post).
